Chichester Corridor Placemaking Study

UC Studios approaches corridor placemaking as a way to connect the distinct parts of a community through safer movement, stronger identity, and coordinated reinvestment. We integrate landscape and streetscape design, pedestrian access, traffic-calming strategies, roadway improvements, land use, and public space to create corridors that work as civic connectors—not simply routes for vehicles. The result is a phased framework that supports daily activity, local business, neighborhood character, and long-term growth.
For the Chichester Corridor Placemaking Study, building off of the 2009 Chichester Corridor Planning Study, UC Studios prepared visual and planning concepts for Chichester Avenue as the link among a mixed-use activity and development area to the north, a civic and social heart at the center, and established residential neighborhoods to the south. The framework envisioned active storefronts, mixed housing, and walkable destinations in the northern area; gathering spaces, civic identity, and safer crossings near community facilities; and traffic calming, sidewalks, landscaping, and neighborhood gateways in the south. Together, these strategies strengthened connections among schools, businesses, homes, and community destinations while creating a more welcoming, functional, and identifiable corridor.
