Philadelphia Waterfront Access and Public-Realm Planning

UC Studios approached the Delaware River waterfront as a connectivity and placemaking challenge, using public-realm improvements to reconnect surrounding neighborhoods with the river while creating a stronger framework for long-term reinvestment. The strategy integrated mobility, recreation, environmental quality, and waterfront identity, recognizing that improved access and public space could serve as catalysts for both community use and broader economic revitalization.
The Philadelphia Waterfront Access and Public-Realm Plan advanced a connected network of trails, pedestrian routes, streetscape improvements, recreation areas, and new public spaces linking neighborhoods and commercial districts to the Delaware River. The work emphasized safer and more continuous pedestrian and bicycle connections, stronger neighborhood-to-waterfront gateways, and coordinated public-realm investments designed to support private redevelopment, expand recreational access, and establish a more cohesive, active, and resilient riverfront.
